Kang Johnson is a Rigellian from Rigel 7. He/She is married to Kodos but he/she was originally portrayed as Kodos' sibling. Together, Kang and Kodos try to take over Earth and are usually seen attacking Springfield.

Description

Kang and Kodos have a lot of space weaponry at hand and have their own spaceship. They speak the Rigellian language, which, by coincidence, is identical to English. Although they look identical, Kang has a deeper voice than Kodos.

History

Kang and Kodos once came to Earth at a roast thrown for Homer. They declared him the epitome of lazy, ignorant humans. Lisa, however, tells them to probe Maggie's brain. They see various celebrities and decided to leave Springfield and Earth alone, on the condition they get tickets to various award shows, which they do.l[1]

Either Kang or Kodos were seen in a line up of other aliens, along with Marvin the Martian, Gort, Chewbacca and ALF.[2]

Non-canon

Donut Homer.png The contents of this article or section are considered to be non-canon and therefore may not have actually happened or existed.

Kang once impersonated Bob Dole in order to become elected President of the United States. When Kang was revealed to be an alien, he/she was still more popular than a third party.[3]

Kang was revealed to be Maggie Simpson's real father.[4]

Kang and Kodos have both ruled over Springfield until they were found out to not be welcome and fled from their primitive weapons.[5]

Behind the Laughter

The idea of Kang and Kodos came from Jay Kogen and Wallace Wolodarsky.[6] Kang and Kodos' designs were based off a cover of an EC Comics issue.[7] They were originally designed to be constantly drooling, however Matt Groening decided against this to make the animation process easier. However, the animators didn't mind so the drooling stayed in.[8] The names of Kang and Kodos come from two Star Trek characters. Kang is named after a Klingon captain from the episode "Day of the Dove" and Kodos is named after Kodos the Executioner from the episode "The Conscience of the King".[7]

The gender of both Kang and Kodos is disputed since it has been different in many different episodes and comics. In "Simpsorama", Kang and Kodos were referred to as both female and were married. The Simpsons: Tapped Out also has Kang and Kodos in the female characters group.
