The Thingama-Bob from Outer Space is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #178.

Synopsis[edit]

After a crash landing, Sideshow Bob suffers from amnesia and thinks he is an alien from outer space. The only thing he remembers is his hatred for Bart Simpson.

Plot[edit]

The Springfield Penitentiary warden lets Sideshow Bob have his last meal before he is sent into space to set up a new penal colony on the Moon. He is taken to Cape Springfield Space Shuttle Launch Center along with Gil Gunderson, Snake Jailbird, and another prisoner to be put on a rocket. Meanwhile, Homer and Bart get a Blackhawk Guillotine with Adamantium Blades remote-control helicopter. Marge makes them play with it outside the house, and they quickly lose control of it, with the helicopter breaking everything it comes across. As the rocket launches, Sideshow Bob panics because his seatbelt is broken. The remote-control helicopter slices off one of the engines of the rocket, causing it to fail. Everybody ejects and falls back to Earth, but the helicopter cuts Bob's parachute and sends him falling hard.

Bob ends up falling into a tree near the Spuckler family. After the Spuckler kids shoot him with paintballs, Bob realizes he has amnesia. Since they saw him fall from the sky, the Spucklers think that Bob is an alien and they tell him this. Bob agrees that he must be an alien, but the one thing he can remember is his hatred for Bart Simpson. Meanwhile, Kent Brockman is on the scene of the crash landing of the rocket's engine, which landed on the Statue of Jebediah Springfield. The general he interviews tells him that it's a prop for a Michael Bay disaster movie, but Lenny, Carl, Barney, and Moe don't buy that excuse and think it's really aliens. When Homer shows up, he and his friends decide to go alien hunting together.

Later that day, the Spucklers help Sideshow Bob figure out that the name of the kid he hates is Bart Simpson. Bob wants to bring Bart back to his homeworld, so Cletus sends his son, Rest Stop, undercover to befriend Bart and bring him to Bob. Rest Stop starts doing the same things Bart likes, such as graffiti tagging buildings and buying Squishees at the Kwik-E-Mart. When Rest Stop buys a huge Squishee, he allows Bart to share it and they become friends. Later, Homer, Lenny, Carl, and Barney get ready to go out alien hunting while Bart and Rest Stop repair Bart's treehouse. When Rest Stop gives his report to Bob, he feels guilty because he struck up a genuine friendship with Bart. Bob tells the Spucklers to deliver Bart to him by tomorrow afternoon, or they will all feel his wrath.

The next day, Rest Stop tries to come clean to Bart, but Cletus comes to pick up Rest Stop and offers Bart to join them for a meal. Bart accepts and heads back to Cletus's farm. When Bart gets there, Sideshow Bob comes out and grabs him. Rest Stop tries to stop Bob from harming his friend, but Cletus holds him back. Homer, Lenny, Carl, and Barney then barge in and Homer throws Snowball II at Bob. When Bart explains to the Spucklers that Bob isn't an alien, Cletus sets his kids on him and they all attack him. Later, Bob is taken into custody by government agents and Bart and Rest Stop agree to stay friends. Kang and Kodos are watching the happy ending from space.
