Ruth Powers is the Simpsons' next-door neighbor.

Family
+
Biography
She is divorced and has a daughter, Laura Powers, who no longer lives with her.
+
Ruth is divorced and has a daughter, Laura Powers, both of whom moved in next door to the Simpsons at the same time. Circumstances behind Ruth's divorce aren't explained, but she has said her ex-husband acts similar to Homer, and he was continually stiffing Ruth on child support. For revenge, she stole his car.

Minor Appearances
+
Ruth and Marge became fast friends after Ruth moved in next door. One evening, they went to a ballet after Homer, who was originally supposed to go with Marge, literally got stuck at work (with his arms in two vending machines). Later they had a girls' night out where they went line dancing at a country bar called Shotkickers, did some target shooting (using a farmer's antique cans as targets), and went up to the Springfield sign overlooking the city. They ended up going on the run from the law, however, after Chief Wiggum tried to pull them over because of a broken taillight, and Ruth decided to flee because they were driving the convertible which she had stolen from her ex-husband.
She is usually seen as a background character, sometimes in events that occurred even before she moved next door (such as the baby shower for Maggie in "And Maggie Makes Three"). She even continues to be a background character despite her later imprisonment.

Clothing
+
The auto theft charges against Ruth were dismissed, but she was later imprisoned for a short time for another offense (not specified). While she was in prison, Ruth became a bodybuilder, earned the title "Miss Mexican Mafia", and took steroids to expand her muscles. She and Marge met up again when Marge also became a bodybuilder and Ruth gave Marge Ragin' 'Roids to take.
She nearly always wears a red headscarf.

Groups
+
Ruth's house was seen being sold after the Financial Crisis hit Springfield, and it was bought by a disguised Sideshow Bob. After Bob was arrested and sent back to jail, the house was bought by Ted Flanders, a distant relative of Ned Flanders. The Powers later moved in again, as in a neighborhood meeting at the Simpson house, Ruth told Marge she hasn't "stopped by to say hello in 25 years, and I live next door".
In the episode "The Cartridge Family" she was part of the NRA.

Major Appearances
+
Ruth is one of the few female patrons at Moe's Tavern, and is often seen at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
The episode "Marge on the Lam" features Ruth and Marge going on the run from the law in a stolen convertible, a parody of Thelma & Louise. Ruth makes a special appearance in the episode "Strong Arms of the Ma", advising Marge (who is taking up weightlifting) to use steroids.

Criminal Activites
+
She was one of five women who bought Apu Nahasapeemapetilon at a bachelor auction. When Kirk Van Houten was falsely arrested for Bart's kidnap, Ruth was among the women who had conjugal visits with him. Ruth was seen on a date with the Nascar Dad. Ruth has been seen with Sideshow Mel.
She reveals that during her time in prison, she was "Miss Mexican Mafia".

Alcholicism
+
Non-canon
In The Simpsons Movie, she is seen in an Alcoholics Anonymous]] meeting along with Barney Gumble.

Ruth Powers is the Simpsons' next-door neighbor.

Biography[edit]

Ruth is divorced and has a daughter, Laura Powers, both of whom moved in next door to the Simpsons at the same time.[1] Circumstances behind Ruth's divorce aren't explained, but she has said her ex-husband acts similar to Homer, and he was continually stiffing Ruth on child support. For revenge, she stole his car.[2]

They ended up going on the run from the law, however, after Chief Wiggum tried to pull them over because of a broken taillight, and Ruth decided to flee because they were driving the convertible which she had stolen from her ex-husband.[2]

The auto theft charges against Ruth were dismissed, but she was later imprisoned for a short time for another offense (not specified). While she was in prison, Ruth became a bodybuilder, earned the title "Miss Mexican Mafia", and took steroids to expand her muscles. She and Marge met up again when Marge also became a bodybuilder and Ruth gave Marge Ragin' 'Roids to take.[3]

Ruth's house was seen being sold after the Financial Crisis hit Springfield, and it was bought by a disguised Sideshow Bob. After Bob was arrested and sent back to jail, the house was bought by Ted Flanders, a distant relative of Ned Flanders.[4] The Powers later moved in again, as in a neighborhood meeting at the Simpson house, Ruth told Marge she hasn't "stopped by to say hello in 25 years, and I live next door".[5]

Ruth is one of the few female patrons at Moe's Tavern,[1] and is often seen at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.[6]

She was one of five women who bought Apu Nahasapeemapetilon at a bachelor auction.[7] When Kirk Van Houten was falsely arrested for Bart's kidnap, Ruth was among the women who had conjugal visits with him.[8] Ruth was seen on a date with the Nascar Dad.[9] Ruth has been seen with Sideshow Mel.[10]
