Synopsis[edit]
- "When Grampa reunites with his old business partner Augustus Redfield, he is brought into the fold at RedStar, Gus' company. However, Abe soon discovers that the business world is far more cutthroat than he expected when he is used by his old friend."
Plot[edit]
50 years ago at The Village Turtleneck, Krusty performs his comedy act without much success. To console himself, he stops at the Worth-A-Try Burger, where he is served by Gus, who prepares a burger quickly and humbly, noting their lack of customers. Krusty suggests that having someone to promote the business could increase its popularity. This brings us to the present, where it is the 50th anniversary of Krusty Burger, celebrated at Krusty Fest.
Homer watches the event on TV and tells Marge to cancel their trip to the Holland Michigan Tulip Days so they can attend Krusty Fest, much to Marge's dismay. At the event, Bart enjoys the film Me and the Space Clown, while Marge gives Lisa a vegan burger. Grampa refuses to eat a Krusty Burger, citing a personal boycott, and Homer purchases a large quantity of burgers to fill pillowcases for just 25 cents. However, in line with Grampa's prediction of a family curse, the burgers are eaten by hawks.
As Krusty enjoys caviar, Augustus Redfield, chairman of the RedStar Corporation, arrives and reveals that he is Gus and now the ninth-richest person in the world. He tells Krusty he stole his restaurant idea 50 years ago and has now bought his parent company. Augustus announces Krusty's downfall, firing him from Krusty Burger, The Krusty the Clown Show, and Krusty Enterprises. Krusty tries to win back his audience, but Augustus crushes him and also invites his old business partner, revealing it to be Abe.
Flashback to the Worth-A-Try Burger, where Krusty promoted the restaurant with his clown act. When he asked for half the profits, the owners refused and threw him into a dumpster. Krusty then opened a Krusty Burger across the street, stealing their signature Triple Patty Flipper.
In the present, Augustus invites Abe to join him in final revenge. Grampa is hesitant, fearing the "Simpsons curse," but Lisa convinces him to try, on the condition that she joins him. Augustus flaunts his wealth and family, showing Abe that he has reacquired their old burger stand. Meanwhile, his daughter Sheila tells Lisa about her plans to rebrand RedStar into GreenStar for environmental purposes, set to happen Monday if Augustus is voted out.
At home, Homer and Bart watch Krusty's new show, Herschel the Comical Man Show!, featuring Nothing Mel, Him, and Mr. Teeny-Dog. Nelson mocks the show, while the children prepare to oust Augustus. Sheila plans to seal Lisa's support by showing her an anti-greenhouse gas film at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
At the board meeting, Sheila makes the motion to remove her father. The deciding vote falls to Grampa, who unexpectedly votes against the motion, causing it to fail. Augustus then fires his children from the company—revealing this was his plan all along to eliminate them while keeping his empire, not to partner again with Abe.
However, Grampa invalidates his own vote by feigning mental incompetence, nullifying the decision and resulting in a tie. This ruins Augustus' scheme. Lisa and Grampa leave satisfied for having stopped both Augustus and Sheila.
Meanwhile, at a kibbutz in Israel, Krusty is working in a field when a lawyer arrives to inform him that he can return to his show and persona, to which Krusty happily agrees.
Production[edit]
Krusty's topper to the "Super Bowl" joke was going to be "Lucille BALL!" (bowling ball with red wig), but it was changed to a Superman joke.[1]
