The episode was written by Bill Odenkirk and directed by Michael Polcino. It guest stars Joe Mantegna as Fat Tony, Jason Momoa as himself, and Bob Odenkirk as the mob lawyer.

Synopsis[edit]

During the San Castellaneta Festival, much of the town realizes their wallets have been pickpocketed. After the state investigator puts the wrong man in jail, Chief Wiggum sets out to clear his name, catch the real criminal, and show he's still up for police work.

Plot[edit]

The Simpson family goes to the San Castellaneta Festival, dedicated to Italian culture, while Fat Tony meets with his uncle. Mayor Quimby introduces Jason Momoa, who tells the story of Ignatius Castellaneta.

At the gathering of money for Jesus, the people at the festival are robbed. At the Police Station, Lenora Carter takes charge of the case, diminishing Chief Wiggum's role. As bait for the robber, Homer is chosen due to his large butt being the biggest in town, and a wallet with a tracking device is placed in his pocket.

After Homer is pickpocketed in the underground, the police follow the device to a storage unit full of wallets. A door opens and Fat Tony and his uncle are framed as the culprits, while Wiggum becomes depressed about being sidelined in the case.

At the Springfield Penitentiary, after Sideshow Bob escapes and gets hit by a rake truck, Fat Tony prays to God to help him out of the situation. On the other side of town, Wiggum also prays for help with his own troubles, and Homer prays for the return of plastic straws.

Louie brings in Fat Tony's lawyer, but upon hearing Tony is innocent, the lawyer leaves. Wiggum watches an interview in which Tony claims he'd never commit pickpocketing. Wiggum visits him in jail and says he'll get him out if Tony convinces him of his innocence.

Tony shows him what he does every day at the time of the crime—singing alone in his room. He agrees to wear a wire and goes to Luigi's to uncover who framed him. Frankie the Squealer reveals it was Johnny Tightlips, who betrayed Tony and became the new Springfield Mafia boss.

Homer mistakenly enters the room just as the police intervene and is shot in the butt, which Wiggum sucks the bullet out of. At the Springfield General Hospital, Homer wakes up safe, while at the station, Wiggum regains his confidence. In the end, Fat Tony, Homer, and Wiggum share a toast to the successful operation at Giuseppe's.

Production[edit]

The mob lawyer's rate clock went through changes between the promotional picture being made and the episode. In the promotional picture, the clock has both the time and charge. However, in the episode, it only has the "charges" on, not the time.
