Oh, Brother! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #162.
Synopsis[edit]
- In an attempt to win the votes of Springfield's senior citizens, Mayor Quimby holds a "Take Your Parent to Work Day". This leads to Grampa Simpson marrying Mr. Burns' mother and Bart teaming up with Agnes Skinner to pull a prank on Principal Skinner.
Plot[edit]
Mayor Quimby arrives at the Springfield Retirement Castle to convince the residents there to vote for him in the upcoming mayoral election. However, Grampa tells Quimby to give them what they really want, to force their families to spend time with them. In a television broadcast later that day, Quimby declares the next day to be "Take Your Parent to Work Day," with the punishment for not complying being a flogging. The next day, Ned brings his father to The Leftorium, with Nedward mistaking the store to be a left-wing store and giving everything away to customers. At the Springfield General Hospital, Dr. Nick has his father, who is a witch doctor, give a second opinion to Hans Moleman. Elsewhere, Krusty has his father appear on the The Krusty the Clown Show, where he fails to take part in the jokes and instead complains about his son.
Homer takes Grampa to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and immediately takes a nap. Meanwhile, Grampa starts playing with Homer's control panel and starts a meltdown. He panics and keeps pressing buttons until the meltdown stops. Meanwhile, at Springfield Elementary School, Bart has just caused another substitute teacher to flee the school. Principal Skinner tells the class that they won't be able to learn anything for the rest of the day, which makes the kids happy. Agnes Skinner then storms into the class and takes charge. Bart vows to break her spirit by second recess. At the Power Plant, Grampa meets Daphne Burns, the mother of Mr. Burns. Daphne calls Grampa a "handsome young man," which makes him happy.
Back at Springfield Elementary, Bart pranks Agnes by putting a frog in her desk drawer, which startles her. However, when Bart opens his own desk, a dozen frogs come out of it, which Agnes put there. Meanwhile, at the Power Plant, Grampa and Daphne have tea together. Grampa then invites her out for dinner, which she agrees to. At Springfield Elementary, Bart has just finished setting up his next prank, a tack on Agnes' chair. He checks his own chair for tacks, but finds it clear. When Agnes sits on the tack, she sends Bart to Willie's shack to rake leaves as punishment. However, when Bart opens the door to the shack, he is chased by a swarm of bees which Agnes put inside the shack. At home the next day, Bart begins planning his revenge on Agnes. Grampa enters the kitchen and reveals that he and Daphne have gotten married. The day after, Homer and Mr. Burns meet each other at work. They realize that their parents getting married means they're step-brothers, but decide not to have a relationship with each other anyway. The two of them start fighting and when Smithers breaks it up, they tell him they were just roughhousing as brothers.
Back at school, Bart asks Agnes for a truce and puts a "Kick Me" sign on her back. However, while he was doing this, Agnes took his phone and texted "Kick Me" to the bullies. The next day, Mr. Burns goes to Homer and asks him to go and do everything he wanted to do as a child but couldn't as he was an only child. This includes kicking a can at Flanders, stealing a barrel hoop from Gil's barrel of pickles and rolling it, picking a fight with another pair of brothers, the Smothers Brothers, and knocking on a door and running away. Meanwhile, at Springfield Elementary, Bart is dressed as Agnes in preparation to record embarrassing videos and post them to the Internet. Agnes catches him before he can follow through with his prank and tells Bart that she used to be the prank queen at school. Bart reveals that he was the prank king at his school until Agnes took his crown. Agnes then comes up with an idea. Principal Skinner is getting ready to have his photo taken for the Springfield Shopper. However, the fire alarm goes off. As Skinner runs out the school, he finds that the floors have been freshly waxed. He slides out the doors and into a hot dog costume, which he has his photo taken while wearing. Agnes and Bart give each other credit for the prank.
Homer and Mr. Burns arrive back at the Power Plant after spending the day together. Homer tells Burns that he spoke to his banker about the two of them being brothers and Homer wants to know if by being Burns' brother if he would inherit Burns' fortune when he dies. Burns tells Homer that he would, then asks if Homer is thinking of ways to kill him and make it look like an accident, which Homer confirms. Smithers then enters Burns' office and reveals that the two of them aren't actually step-brothers. Smithers explains that he tried to get Daphne to come to "Take Your Parent to Work Day," but couldn't get hold of her because she was either not talking to her son or was dead. So Smithers hired an actress, Tallulah Winkelman, to play Daphne Burns. Grampa says that he should have realized something was up when he had to give ten percent of their wedding presents to Tallulah's agent and their pre-nup arrangement only gave their marriage a one-week run. Homer asks Burns if they can remain friends, but Burns rejects him. Homer then makes a call to Iceland, which is in the process of being renamed to "Homerland" because Homer bought the country while his credit limit was raised. He tells the residents that the deal is off, which makes them sad.
