redlinks[edit]

I can't tell you how much better these pages look without the redlinks left over from the WP migration. —Scott (talk) 02:38, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah its alot better, it makes the page look like a real page. If you guys want a subject or anything to be a link and its already on wikipedia don't make it here just put for example New York instead of New York. (look at it in editing style) But dont put everything like this only important links. Basel17 05:35, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm only leaving redlinks for characters, guest stars, or Springfield locations which will get their own pages eventually (and I'm only using Wikipedia links for things which aren't common knowledge or major pop culture references, like Frank Nelson on the Yes Guy page). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 06:10, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]

Hey, just de-redlinking your name :·) —Scott (talk) 01:01, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

comment[edit]

yeah but its just redirecting it to more precise information Sgtcook 21:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

That's the problem, though. As a redirect, that's a great idea. As the main page, it's problematic, especially when you get into maiden names and such. Casual users will look for Marge Simpson, not Marjorie Bouvier Simpson, and for that matter writers, voice actors, critics etc. use Marge Simpson or Marge; the change creates double redirects which need to be fixed and in general can be disorienting. Either way, while I know this isn't the most active community at present, it's a major alteration which should really be discussed. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
confused anyway i fixed double redirections by searching things like Marge Bouvier which redirected to Marge Simpson and changed it to Marjorie Bouvier Simpson

Yeah, that helps. I don't want to sound discouraging, but I *really* think this needs to be discussed in Current events or somewhere before you do the same for any more major characters, i.e. moving Bart Simpson to Bartholemew "Bart" Jojo Simpson and so on. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
But if Bart SImpson is redirected it will be a)More Accurate and b)Also remain the same information. Kingcjc 21:25, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
one last thing don't we want to give accurate info Sgtcook 21:23, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
If the full name is in the text, it is accurate info. The questions for article titles is a) what's the primary identity/name used for the character (especially with maiden names, which in many cases aren't counted unless the individual deliberately uses them), b) whether said names are consistent and sourced; what to do if a name is mentioned as a joke once and later a different middle or surname used, or with things like Selma Bouvier's many surnames, not all of which were explained beyond the one-time joke; the talk page on Bart questions where "Jojo" came from and the only answer was "with creativity", c) what will new users be looking for, and finally d) *any* substantial change to the overall Wiki is worth discussing. Kingcjc seems to agree, so if there's a majority consensus, that's fine. Otherwise, it could cause potential disputes and editing wars and just confusion. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:29, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
well thats not wat i meant i agree with sgtcook I know him well and he has good intentions for the redirection, in fact im redirecting pages right now :P Kingcjc 21:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
That's what I meant. You agree with Sgtcook, or seem to. If everyone else agrees, that's fine. But it's simply wise and generally polite to discuss issues. By the same taken, it would be a problem if I moved Little Orphan Millie to JABF22 Little Orphan Millie without discussing (not a strictly analogous situation, but close). I could argue that the production code should be part of the name, is more accurate, makes it easier to find, etc. But if it's done without anybody else knowing, or in some cases, checking to make sure that the stated production code is fully accurate to begin with, it takes people by surprise and can cause annoyance and confusion. Notice I haven't tried to move any of Sgtcook's changes back. I just think this merits *community* wide discussion. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:36, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Also, redirects are always good and never hurt. But Sgtcook isn't redirecting, he's renaming, so that's a bigger change. Should Joe Quimby be moved to Joseph Fitzpatrick Fitzgerald Fitzhenry "Joe" Quimby, which to date has only been used on a promotional website? I know I'm just coming into this, so I don't want to seem like I'm leaping on you established people. But I seriously think this is a major change which bears discussion. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Well yh so u could make it if u search JABF22 it takes u to Little Orphan Millie that would be useful and infact i just made quimby go to Mayor Quimby and Sgt Cook saw and we decided not to change it to Joesph Fritzpatrick Fritzgerald Fitzhenry Joe Quimby.Kingcjc 21:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Like I said, redirects are always useful. But making that the main title could be a problem. Again, I don't want to seem like I'm trying to fight with you guys. I just think it's a good idea to have an open, visible discussion with everyone on these issues. For example, the Marge page just mentions that her maiden name is "Bouvier," which is true. But has it ever been used as part of her full name (an issue which, in real life, in general seems to depend on the woman's perogative)? And there could be other similar issues. Abraham Simpson in the text says Abraham J. Simpson, while a heading on the picture says "Abraham Jasper Simpson." What's the source for Jasper? What happens if the page is moved there and then its found that Jasper was just somebody's guess or vandalism which went unnotices? There's just a lot of related questions which bear discussing, first with the community, and then possibly on a per article basis. -- Andrew Leal (talk)

I understand where you all are coming from and your arguments, but I think it is better to just keep the common name for a character for example Marjorie Bouvier Simpson just keep it as Marge Simpson. Wikisimpons is a place where people can go and read about the simpsons, using the common name will be easier for them to understand. Please if any more problems happen just discuss on my talk page. I'm sorry I couldn’t elaborate more on what I'm saying. I'm currently working on other projects at the moment. Thank you Basel17 00:21, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

bart simpson jr[edit]

my friend said that he saw a video and matt groening mentioned bart jr..

i dont know if its true

Yeah. Since it's for a character who doesn't exist yet, and you're relying on what a friend saw or remembered, it's not very useful for a Wiki. If and when the character actually appears on the show, that would be a good time to create the page. Thanks for letting me know, though! -- Andrew Leal (talk) 00:23, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for letting me know about the articles. You've been a great help to this wiki, keep up the good work. Basel17 00:42, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Your welcome! While you're around, could you also look at Futurama? There's an old complaint on the talk page, and it does have its own Wiki. My thought is it could work, since it is a "sister series" unlike Family Guy, if Futurama References was merged, as a single article discussing cross-references, cameos, show similarities, shared cast members, and later on, the comic book cross-overs between the two shows. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 00:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Thats a great idea, how about you be in charge of that and merge them and let me when your done so I can delete Futurama. - Basel17 03:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Dear User, I recently received a message from simpsonspedia saying, "please say your guys, that they shouldn't steal grabpics from simpsonspedia.net!". Now besides from the bad grammar and sentence structure, I guess this simpsonspedia is a German knock off of Wikisimpsons. I really don’t care where you get the pictures, but if you ever uploaded them from there just try to stay away from this website from now on. Basel17 20:55, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
