Synopsis[edit]
- "When Lisa joins the high school marching band, she finds an unlikely mentor in Shauna Chalmers. Meanwhile, Homer and Superintendent Chalmers become craft beer brewers in the garage of Chalmers' house."
Plot[edit]
During Mr. Largo's music lesson, Skinner enters the classroom and announces that, due to an injury sustained by the saxophone player in the Springfield High School band, Lisa has been requested as a substitute. Marge drives Lisa to class, where the students begin playing the Hawaii Five-0 theme song. Shauna joins in on drums, prompting teasing from the other students. Lisa tries to talk to her, but Shauna snubs her.
At dinner, Lisa begins explaining what happened at rehearsal while Homer spills hot sauce in his eye. Lisa realizes she left her sheet music at school and goes back to retrieve it, finding Shauna practicing the drums. After initially being rude again, Shauna changes her mind and invites Lisa to jam with her at her house the next day. At Chalmers' house, Shauna is also rude to her father, and the two leave for the Springfield Mall instead of eating the dinner he prepared.
Homer arrives to pick up Lisa and meets Chalmers, who offers him a sample of his home-brewed beer. Homer enjoys it, and Chalmers begins teaching him how to brew. Meanwhile, at the mall, Lisa and Shauna have fun together and see A Prom Before Dying. Shauna affectionately calls Lisa her little sister. The next morning, they wake up at the same time to practice at school. Marge becomes concerned about Shauna's influence on Lisa, while Homer grows enthusiastic about his new bond with Chalmers.
Chalmers lets Homer brew the next batch, while at home, Marge's reading is interrupted by Lisa and Shauna practicing. In Lisa's room, she encourages Shauna to audition for lead drummer, and Shauna reluctantly agrees. At the audition, Shauna outperforms everyone and gets the role. They are then invited to a teen party hosted by Trevor McBride. Meanwhile, Chalmers and Homer create a new beer label: *Thirst Trappist Hunky Monks Ale*. To sneak out beer for the party, Shauna distracts her father by having Lisa perform in the house. However, Homer accidentally hits Chalmers' garage remote, revealing the stash. The teens take all the beer instead of just one basket.
At the party, Lisa impresses the crowd with her performance. When Trevor's parents leave, the party escalates as Trevor reveals the stolen beer. Chalmers and Homer discover the beer is missing and check Shauna's Instagram, where they locate the party. Lisa, overwhelmed, calls 911 just before Chalmers and Homer arrive. The police show up and arrest them for allegedly supplying alcohol to minors.
Lou soon discovers the beer is non-alcoholic—Homer forgot to add yeast—saving Chalmers' career. Lisa, feeling betrayed, tells Homer how much she now hates Shauna and never wants to see her again. At home, Lisa reconciles with Maggie, who was upset that Lisa had ignored her. Homer and Marge head out to enjoy themselves, leaving Shauna—now the babysitter—in charge.
Shauna tells Lisa she quit the band too after Lisa was fired when the original sax player recovered, and that she started a new punk band. In the end, the two reconcile and begin jamming together again.
Reception[edit]
"Girls Just Shauna Have Fun" was nominated for a 2023 Writers Guild of America award in Animation, but it lost to "Rectify" from Undone.[1]
