The Capital City Goofball is the crowd pleaser mascot for Capital City's baseball team, the Capital City Capitals. He is also a state legislator. He is best friends with musician Henry Mancini, and enemy with the Shelbyville Lamprey mascot. During his spare time, he calls Dr. Marvin Monroe's hot line for the extremely enraged.[1]

History

The Capital City Goofball shared the stage with Homer when he did a guest spot as the on-field entertainer for the Capital City Capitals, filling in for the Goofball for one inning break.[2]

The Capital City Goofball represents Capital City in the state Congress; he spent 80 million dollars out of his own pocket to win the seat. During one congressional meeting, he said that the state should change its flag, as the Confederate Symbol on it was an embarrassment, especially because they were a Northern state.[3]

The Capital City Goofball appeared as a celebrity panelist on the game show The Springfield Squares, in the same episode where Homer was the guest center square.[4]

In the future, the Capital City Goofball is shown to be one of many people who have died in Moe's Tavern. His distinctive outline is seen chalked on the floor, along with many others.[5]

He was among the Springfieldians transported to New New York and was one of the people chosen by Zapp Brannigan to join the army of D.O.O.P (Democratic Order of Planets).[6]

Description

The costume is a creature with a baseball body, with a blue Capital City T-Shirt, yellow arms and legs, a long flat-ended nose, tufts of fur at the side, a red hat with two springs, two costume eyes that look in either direction, and two more eyes that peek outside the mouth (the eyes of the person wearing the costume). It is flame-retardant, vegetable-repellent, an bulletproof.[1]

Behind the Laughter

The episode "Homer to the Max" implies that the Capital City Goofball was originally conceived as a major recurring character, but has only appeared in occasional background scenes since his debut episode, and only ever had one other speaking role.

He appears on the disc holder in the Season 17 boxset.

Model

His appearance seems to have been inspired by the Phillie Phanatic, mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies. Goldie, the mascot of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, an independent minor league baseball team which came into existence in 1994, may have been inspired by the Capital City Goofball.
