Ms. Pommelhorst takes a tough-as-nails approach to teaching and to life in general. When a teachers' strike took place at Springfield Elementary, she left her class the moment the strike was called—even leaving a little girl clinging to gymnastics rings and calling for help.[1]
Ms. Pommelhorst announced to her students that she was taking a leave of absence to undergo gender reassignment surgery. According to Principal Skinner, she would be returning to the school as shop teacher Mr. Pommelhorst.[3] For some time after making her announcement, she wasn't seen as either Ms. Pommelhorst or Mr. Pommelhorst. However, she was later seen running out of the school at the end of the school day looking like a woman and dressed in her usual "gym teacher" outfit, so she apparently decided not to go through with the operation. It isn't known whether she's back teaching gym or has a different job at the school.[4]
