Character Information
|
Hamlet was the prince of Denmark. He appeared in a story from the book Classics for Children.
History
In the form of a ghost his father told him how his uncle Claudius poured poison in his ear so he could marry Hamlet's mother Gertrude and become the king. His father requested that his death be avenged.
Prince Hamlet, with the help of a clown, put on a play to make Claudius reveal himself to be guilty. Claudius then realized that Hamlet knew what he had done and tried to kill Hamlet to keep the truth from being revealed. Hamlet, aiming to kill Claudius, accidentally killed Polonius. His son, Laertes, proposed to duel Prince Hamlet for revenge. However, Laertes accidentally killed himself while taking a "practice stab", and Hamlet proceeded to kill Claudius. Hamlet walked away to celebrate his victory, but he slipped on some blood and died from the fall.
Behind the Laughter
Prince Hamlet appears only in the "Do the Bard, Man" segment of "Tales from the Public Domain". The segment is a re-telling of the Shakespeare play Hamlet with various Springfieldians cast as the play's characters, including Bart Simpson as Prince Hamlet.
