Ned Flanders I was a sheriff in Springfield and the grandfather of Ned Flanders.

History[edit]

When Ned was young, he and his grandfather went to a shop to get chewing tobacco and candy tobacco. Ned then noticed that a man was stealing a loaf of bread. When Ned pointed this out to his grandfather, Sheriff Flanders confronted the man before he gave the man money to buy the bread. The man paid for the bread and yelled "death to pigs, except you, man!" When Ned asked his grandfather why he didn't arrest the man for stealing, Sheriff Flanders told Ned that he was taught by nuns at the orphanage he grew up in "the harder the good, the better the man."[1]

When Ned Flanders I was getting a shave at Lachman's Barber Shop and Delicatessen, the Szyslak Brothers entered and told the Sheriff that he was going to get what was coming to him. Sheriff Flanders told the barber to take his grandson out of the barber whilst he dealt with the mob. Slocum Szyslak then gave Sheriff Flanders an envelope full of money as a bribe, revealing that Sheriff Flanders was actually corrupt. Sheriff Flanders then threw Scrotum Szyslak to keep up appearances. Later that day, Flanders went to a parties where he gambled and did drugs.

Eventually, he and the Syzslak Brothers ended up at the Prestige Motel where they were doing a deal with the Capital City Mafia. The Syzslak Brothers decided to double-cross the Capital City Mafia and a huge fight broke out. Sheriff Flanders hid until the fight was over. When he came out of hiding, he found Slocum Szyslak with the bag of money. Sheriff Flanders killed Slocum and hid the money in a tree. However, Costas Becker, who was the money man for the Capital City Mafia, knew that Sheriff Flanders had hidden the money. When Becker was asking where the money was, Sheriff Flanders slipped on the ice, and into Becker's knife, killing him. The money then stayed hidden for many years.[2]

Many years later, after Ned found the bag of money, he donated the money to St. Giles Orphanage in Sheriff Flanders' name, not knowing about his past as a corrupt sheriff.[1]
