Charlie was a soldier and a friend of Abraham Simpson.
History[edit]
During the war, Grampa was trapped in a foxhole with Charlie. Charlie told Abe that he didn't think he was going to make it. Abe thought he was thinking crazy until he realized that Charlie didn't have a bottom half any more. Charlie then gave his dogtags to Abe, with a picture of his girlfriend, Clara, and asked Abe to deliver his tags to Clara. Abe never did this and ended up handing the tags over to Homer, telling him to do the same. Homer eventually ended up handing them to Bart.
