Ned Flanders I
|
Character Information
|
Ned Flanders I was a sheriff in Springfield and the grandfather of Ned Flanders.
History
When Ned was young, he and his grandfather went to a shop to get chewing tobacco and candy tobacco. Ned then noticed that a man was stealing a loaf of bread. When Ned pointed this out to his grandfather, Sheriff Flanders confronted the man before he gave the man money to buy the bread. The man paid for the bread and yelled "death to pigs, except you, man!" When Ned asked his grandfather why he didn't arrest the man for stealing, Sheriff Flanders told Ned that he was taught by nuns at the orphanage he grew up in "the harder the good, the better the man."
Sheriff Flanders' view of the world and his upbringing led to Ned donating a large sum of money to St. Giles Orphanage in his name.
