Judah Ben-Hur, often shortened to Ben-Hur, was a wealthy prince and merchant in Jerusalem whose adventures ran in parallel to the life of Jesus Christ in the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. The novel was a major success and later adapted into a major big-screen biblical epic starring Charlton Heston in the title role.

History[edit]

During the final of the Soapbox Derby Race between Bart and Nelson, the commentator said that like the elegant Roman in Judah Ben-Hur these modern charioteers battle ferociously.[1]

In A Burns for All Seasons Charlton Heston reprised the role of Judah Ben-Hur and he was seen when the character had been dragged through the hot desert with other slaves. He had just collapsed when he heard Mr. Burns tell him, "Drink up, Judah Ben-Hur." and offered him a plastic bottle of water. After he drunk, Judah Ben-Hur proclaimed Mr. Burns truly was the King of Kings. Mr. Burns has put himself into the role of Jesus, whose face is never seen in the 1959 film[2]
