Homer includes Mills in The Lazy Hall of Fame for "[putting] so little thought and effort into designing a monument", yet getting a lot of money for it.

Behind the Laughter

Robert Mills (1781-1855) designed the Washington Monument in real life. His design was the winner in a competition held in 1836 and the prize was $500 (equivalent to about $12,500 in 2013).
