Thomas E. Dewey was the 47th Governor of New York. In 1944 and 1948, he was the Republican candidate for President, but lost both times.
History
Lisa and Homer watched a historical documentary and made a bet on who would win the 1948 U.S. Presidential election. Homer enthusiastically opted for Dewey when he saw polls predicting victory for Governor Dewey, but Dewey lost to Harry S. Truman. Lisa won the bet and thus got to choose their activity for Daddy-Daughter Day. She chose building homes for Habitat for Humanity alongside former U.S. Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George H. W. Bush.
