Etch served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War Two, alongside Abraham Simpson. He died in a parade float accident in 1979, along with Arnie Gumble, Iggy Wiggum, Griff McDonald, and Sheldon Skinner.

Not much else is known about Etch except that he may like to write and/or draw a lot, as he is seen with a notepad and pencil. Also, it is possible he was the team's sniper, as the rifle he is seen sitting next to appears to be a Springfield sniper rifle.
