The Aztec Theater is one of the major movie theaters in Springfield. It is located downtown, near The Gilded Truffle. In contrast to the thirty-plus screens at Springfield Googolplex Theatres, the Aztec can only screen one movie at a time. However, it has premiered many installments of the Space Mutants film series, and also screened the landmark animated film "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie". Homer once instructed the theatre clerk to not sell Itchy & Scratchy Movie tickets to Bart, as a punishment for indirectly causing a breakout at the Springfield State Prison.

The Springfield Film Festival was a local film competition held at the Aztec Theater, where residents of Springfield presented homemade movies and competed for a cash prize judged by a panel that included film critic Jay Sherman.[1]
Once, Homer Simpson went to the Aztec Theater to watch a movie while he was supposed to be working from home. Theater employees refused to admit him because they believed he would not fit in the seats or could safely sit in the aisle. After being mocked by bystanders, Homer left the theater and returned home.[2]
