Saxophony! is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #43.

Synopsis[edit]

"Bart becomes jealous of Lisa after the family spends money on a new dress for her summer recital instead of going to Mt. Splashmore, so Bart decides to fool everyone into believing that he can also play the saxophone."

Plot[edit]

On the morning of Saturday 14th, Bart wakes up Homer and Marge for their trip to Mt. Splashmore. However, they tell Bart that they're not going to the water park as they had to spend the money on a new dress for Lisa's school band recital. Bart gets jealous of this and decides to get back at Lisa by pretending to be better at saxophone than him. He and Milhouse go to the Pawn Shop where Bart buys an old saxophone, a Bleeding Gums Murphy CD, and "old man clothes" and then borrows Milhouse's mp3 player. Bart then glues a speaker inside the saxophone and uses the mp3 player to make it play music.

Back at home, Bart uses his saxophone to make the family believe he was really playing it. The family, except Lisa, likes his music and Bart ends up going to the next recital rehearsal. He impresses Mr. Largo and the band members and Largo offers him the position of first chair, which is Lisa's position. However, Bart says that he only plays solo, so Mr. Largo offers him a solo performance at the show. Mr. Largo then says that Bart's playing reminded him of Bleeding Gums Murphy playing at the Aztec Theater in 1972. This leads to Lisa realizing where she had heard Bart's songs before.

Lisa goes to confront Milhouse, who admits to everything. Lisa then uses another one of Milhouse's CDs and puts that on the mp3 player instead. When the day of the recital comes around, Bart gets ready to play his solo, but the theme song of The Happy Little Elves plays instead of Bleeding Gums Murphy. The band all laughs at Bart and his parents are disappointed in him. Mr. Largo then tells Bart that he'll have to cancel the band's performance at Mt. Splashmore.
