Synopsis[edit]

Homer, Bart, and Lisa try to reunite the animatronic band from Homer's old place of work, Razzle Dazzle's Pizza-Tainment Palace. However, when they find that Wakkety Yak is now owned by movie producer J. J. Abrams, they must come up with a plan to get him back.

Plot[edit]

In Homer's teen years, he is woken up by Abe, who tells him he's going to be late for work. Abe criticizes Homer for wasting his time on Hip-Hop. Homer heads to Razzle Dazzle's Pizza-Tainment Palace after meeting Lenny and Carl on the sidewalk.

Gil Gunderson, the boss, prepares the team for work, and Homer begins his DJ duties while the animatronics perform on stage. Suddenly, a kid throws a glass of ranch sauce at Wakkety Yak, causing the animatronics to short-circuit.

Homer quickly plays a Hip-Hop mix disc he has prepared for such a moment and manages to keep the kids from leaving despite the animatronics malfunctioning. Gil congratulates Homer and encourages him to create a new show using the music he loves.

The result is the Phuntime Phunky Phour, and the venue is packed. However, just as the show begins, the FBI raids the restaurant, revealing it as a front for drug trafficking. The animatronics were used to store cocaine. Gil is arrested, the animatronics are confiscated, and Abe drives by, telling Homer, "I told you so."

In the present, Homer cries in front of the building as the family heads to Ralph's birthday party there. Homer stays in the parking lot, reminiscing, while the family enters the pizzeria.

Back home, Marge notices a change in Homer since the incident. Moe arrives and agrees, and Marge resolves that they'll just love Homer more. Bart and Lisa decide to cheer him up by searching for the animatronics, starting by contacting Gil, now living in Little New York.

Gil reveals the animatronics were auctioned off by the FBI. Hippie Hippo was bought by Professor Frink, Foxy Lady by Sideshow Mel, Wakkety Yak by Herman's Military Antiques, and Jive Turkey by Disco Stu.

Lisa visits Disco Stu, Marge goes to Frink, Moe visits Sideshow Mel, and Bart and Lisa go together to Herman, only to find that he has just sold Wakkety Yak to J. J. Abrams for a new Mission: Impossible film.

Bart and Lisa arrive at the J.J. Abrams Productions building, trick the receptionist, and manage to retrieve Yak using BB-8s to transport him outside. However, they are caught by the Bad Robot security guard.

Homer picks them up but sees Yak and prevents the security crew from taking him back. J. J. Abrams comes out of the building, understands the situation, and joins them at their home—only to start pitching a nine-movie franchise featuring the animatronics, traumatizing Homer all over again.

Marge convinces Homer to cope by eating his feelings, so he heads to Krusty Burger, where he runs into Comic Book Guy. They bond over their shared traumas and decide to start trolling J. J. Abrams online, inspired by how internet trolls influenced the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Homer dives into trolling on Reddit, but it consumes his time with his family and yields no success. The movie—Agents of P.I.Z.Z.A.—premieres at the Aztec Theater.

Homer joins a protest group of trolls outside the theater while J. J. presents the film. He storms in to stop him, but Grampa—called by Marge—arrives and reminds J. J. that he ruined childhood memories.

They reconcile, and J. J. surprises Homer by revealing he has reprogrammed the animatronics. He brings them on stage, now modified to dispense frozen yogurt at the after-party.

In the end, the trolls—led by Comic Book Guy—form the Troll Force Five, "Earth's spite-iest heroes."

Production[edit]

The episode was supposed to air on March 7, 2021, but due to "Diary Queen" being pre-empted to February 21, 2021 due to Daytona 500 delays, it was pre-empted to March 14, 2021.[1][2][3]
