History[edit]

A large balloon of Joan Didion was being used in the Highbrow Artists Parade in Capital City. When Lisa was running from a mob of artists, she hid in the deflated balloon of Joan Didion. She accidentally inflated it and ended up on top of the balloon. After Katya cut the rope holding the balloon to the ground, it floated off towards Springfield. Lisa, who had gone a whole day without sleep, started to hallucinate Joan Didion speaking to her. Didion told Lisa that it was easy to see the beginnings of things, and harder to see the ends. She then told Lisa that she could remember where the city began for her, but not the moment it ended and that she couldn't cut through the ambiguities, second starts and broken resolves to the exact place where the heroine was no longer as optimistic as she once was. Lisa then asked the balloon how she was speaking to her, and Didion reminded Lisa that she hadn't slept in 24 hours.
