History[edit]
After Homer asked to look at the tombstone of Mona Simpson, he discovered that it is Walt Whitman's. He then started to kick the tombstone.[1]
Martin Prince had a book by Walt Whitman. Later, Apu mentioned Whitman in the poem he recited at McBean's Coffee House.[2]
When it was the Simpson family's reading night, Lisa read a book by Walt Whitman.[3]
Lisa was reading Leaves of Grass in the school cafeteria during lunch and again at home during dinner. Walt Whitman's picture on the book cover turned into Sideshow Bob who tried to convince Lise to visit him. Later both Sideshow Bob and Lisa cited passages from "Song of Myself", a poem in Leaves of Grass.[4]
