The Village People are an American disco band.
History[edit]
When Nigel gave The Be Sharps a recording contract, he told Homer that they had to replace the police officer, as he was "too Village People." This led to Chief Wiggum being replaced by Barney.[1]
When Homer joined the Naval Reserve, he got to participate in the annual war games and was placed on board a nuclear submarine that was under the command of Captain Tenille. When it was time for the submarine to cast off, Tenille announced that it was traditional to sing the Village People song "In the Navy," so the crew started to do so. The Village People were on the submarine's deck at the time and began to sing too, but when the submarine dived, they went down along with it, leaving their headgear floating on the water.[2]
When Homer daydreamed that he was in the 1970s, he saw a theater playing Can't Stop the Music, starring the Village People.[3]

In a story from the 1970s comic Nuclear Power Man and Iron Foot: Heroes for Rent or Lease to Own, the Village People were sent to negotiate with Disco Inferno to stop him from burning down New York City. The attempt failed, and the Village People, smoking and burned, returned to the police and reported, "No dice." However, Disco Inferno later stopped his rampage, and he, the Village People, Linus Van Pelt, and Iron Foot all gathered for Christmas dinner, prepared and hosted by Nuclear Power Man.[4]
