Vicki Valentine, also known as Lil' Vicki, Little Vicki, and Little Miss Vicki, is a dance instructor and former child actress.

History[edit]

Lil' Vicki in one of the films she starred in as a child.

Vicki Valentine was a child star in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She appeared in over forty movies, including Little Vicki for President, Little Vicki vs. Big Rhonda, and Hell Hath No Little Vicki. When she grew up, she generally preferred to be called "just plain Vicki" rather than "Little Vicki" or "Little Miss Vicki," but she apparently still reserved the right to be called "Little Vicki" in a professional context.

Vicki eventually became a dance instructor and had her own studio, Lil' Vicki Valentine's School of Dance, in Springfield. In her studio, Vicki displayed her child-star movie posters on the walls. As an instructor, Vicki had a reputation for being very strict but was also highly successful, teaching many people how to dance. Lisa and Ralph joined one of Vicki's dance classes. Ralph discovered that he was a natural at dancing, but Lisa had no knack for it and kept falling down.

Vicki's lessons usually involved very little instruction and had her repeating "tappa, tappa, tappa," which was a style of teaching that Lisa didn't like. As a result, Lisa struggled with dancing and didn't enjoy it. Eventually, Vicki planned a dance recital, where the main song would be "On the Spaceship Lollipop". However, she cut Lisa from the recital and relegated her to the curtain puller. Professor Frink overheard this and gave Lisa a chip for her shoes which would make them dance along to noise so she could match the other tap dancers.

Lisa showed up to the recital, ready to dance, but was told that she was still cut from the production. When Ralph ate some of the plastic candy and became too unwell to dance, Vicki decided to take his place in the show instead of Lisa. Then, as Lisa went to open the curtains, Vicki took that job as well as she didn't trust Lisa to do it right. The show started, with Lisa off-stage, but her shoes started dancing along to the music and tap dancing. She ended up dancing on stage and took over as lead, which annoyed Vicki. Not wanting to be upstaged, Vicki danced harder. The crowd started applauding, which eventually led to Lisa's shoes malfunctioning, and she danced off the stage, causing the crowd to disperse. Homer tripped Lisa, which brought her dancing rampage to an end. After the show, Vicki was annoyed at Lisa using self-tapping shoes but understood why she did it.[1]

She was among the crowd at the Green Day concert[2] and was one of the people who were dancing on Mr. Burns' empty grave after his supposed death.[3]

Personality[edit]

Typical for performers, Vicki has a well-developed ego to accompany her sense of professionalism. When Lisa borrows a pair of high-tech automatic tap shoes from Professor Frink, the shoes go out of control, causing Lisa to dance onto the stage and interrupt a recital in which Vicki is starring. Vicki took Lisa's interruption as a personal affront and a deliberate attempt to upstage her. She matched Lisa move for move until the shoes short-circuited.

Behind the Laughter[edit]

Vicki Valentine is based on Shirley Temple. Temple was also asked to guest star as Valentine, but she declined.[4]

Judging by her movie posters including references to the USA being involved in World War II, Vicki's career as a child star had to have included the early 1940s as well as the late 1930s.
