Character Information
|
The Pookadook is a demon that is summoned by reading the book of the same name.
History
When Marge went to read Maggie a bedtime story, The Pookadook kept showing up. Marge then decided to read Maggie the book, but it turned out to be very scary to both Marge and Maggie. Marge stopped reading the book and put Maggie to bed. That night, Marge heard Maggie screaming on the baby monitor. She ran into Maggie's room and found that the book had somehow made it into Maggie's crib. She ripped the book up and threw it away. The next day, the doorbell rung. Marge opened the door to find that the book had been put together again and was on the doorstep. Marge threw the book on the barbecue and burned it. One of the pages came out of the book as she did so. The page said that Marge would burn the book, which is what the Pookadook wanted. The Pookadook then possessed Marge after it emerged from the burning book.
The Pookadook, now in possession of Marge's body, wanted to kill Maggie. As it tried to do so, Homer and Bart interrupted it. The Pookadook then sent the rest of the family to "sleep with the fishes", which was an overnight stay at the aquarium. When Maggie was left alone with The Pookadook, Maggie managed to escape and ran away. The Pookadook gave chase to Maggie into the basement, where Maggie managed to knock it unconscious after it tripped on a crayon. Maggie then tied the demon up and tried to get through to her mother by using memories. When these all fail, due to Marge feeling resentment from the way her family acted towards her. Maggie managed to get away again, but was hanging from the stairs. Unable to pull herself up, Maggie let go and fell into Marge's arms. As The Pookadook got ready to kill Maggie, Maggie touched Marge's cheek. This got through to Marge and she coughed up The Pookadook. Marge then used the outdoor vacuum cleaner to suck The Pookadook up, trapping it.
