Al Jolson was a singer, comedian and actor, once dubbed "The World's Greatest Entertainer". Jolson was also a prominent protester for racial equality.
History
When Homer demonstrated outsideSpringfield Nuclear Power Plant Mr. Burns told Smithers that he hasn't seen anything like that since Jolson, and asked him who Homer was.[1]
When Mr. Burns want you Walon Smihters get Al Jolson to a concert with him and Marge. Smithers remember then to Burns at he was dead last time he asked that, Burns remember then that and told him to get Tom Jones.[2]
