Milhouse read a copy of The Ant, where the character The Ant got superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive ant. After being bitten, he got a craving for picnic food and stole food from people.

The Ant getting his powers from a radioactive ant is a reference to Spider-Man, who got his powers from a radioactive spider.
