Don Mattingly is a baseball player who was one of the players in the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball team.

History[edit]

Waylon Smithers, Jr. went to visit Mattingly at his house to ask him to come and work at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, so that he could join the plant's softball team. Mattingly acted friendly towards Smithers and invited him into his house. All through training for the big game against Shelbyville, Mr. Burns ordered Mattingly to get rid of his "sideburns", obviously mistaking what sideburns actually were. On the day of the big game, Mattingly shaved the sides of his head bald, but Burns only saw that Mattingly had not obeyed him, and he angrily threw him off the team. As he walked away, Mattingly said of Burns, "I still like him better than Steinbrenner."[1]
