James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. is a former President of the United States and supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
History[edit]
Marge apparently voted for him twice.[1]
Homer tricked Barney into going on a fake plowing job by telephoning him, using a fake voice and telling him there was a $10,000 bill in it for him. When Barney became suspicious and asked which President was on the bill, Homer replied, "All of them. They're having a party. Jimmy Carter's passed out on the couch."[2]
Springfield briefly had a statue of Jimmy Carter in the park. They were going to get a statue of Abraham Lincoln, but the funds to buy a statue came from the "Beautify Our Parks" bake sale, which brought in less money than expected due to Marge's being in jail. Unable to afford Lincoln's statue, the organizers settled for Carter's instead. When the statue was unveiled, the townspeople didn't like it and started a riot. After Marge got out of jail, they modified the statue, giving it Marge's hairdo, and gave it to her in recognition of her contributions to the community. Later, Bart and Lisa used the statue as a tetherball pole.[3]
He was thrown out of Mr. Burns' birthday celebration due to his only serving one term as president.[4]
When the Simpsons fled their home (due to a Southern colonel's accepting Homer's challenge to a duel), they saw Carter building a Habitat house for the Spuckler family. They stopped and Lisa asked Carter if he could build them a house, as they couldn't go back to their own. Carter apologetically declined, saying that the Habitat houses were for the truly needy. Homer became angry and said, "C'mon, Carter, build us a house, you lazy bum." At this, Carter replied that Homer had offended him, picked up a glove and began to challenge Homer to a duel, but Homer screamed and quickly drove away.[5]
When Kitenge explained that President Muntu seized power in Tanzania in a bloodless coup, only smotherings, Homer responded with "just like Jimmy Carter."[6]
Homer called Bill Clinton "Jimmy Carter with a Fox attitude".[7]
Lisa and Homer volunteered at a house-building project for Domiciles for the Destitute when Lisa won a bet with Homer and got to choose their next daddy-daughter outing. Also helping in the project were Carter and fellow former Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton. When Homer was imprisoned in England, Jesse Jackson and Jimmy Carter assisted Marge in getting him released. During a press conference, Jackson and Carter started fighting.[10]
