History
Kermit first appeared in the 1955 show Sam and Friends. Originally Kermit was never a frog until the late 1960's in which he appeared in the made- for-TV movie, Hey Cinderella and Sesame Street. On the Street he would often be a reporter or a teacher to such Muppets Cookie Monster and Grover. In 1977, Kermit would become the star of The Muppet Show along with older Muppets such as Rowlf the Dog and Beautiful Day Monster. Along with these older characters he starred along new ones such as the comedian Fozzie Bear, stuntsman Gonzo the Great, backstage man Scooter, and the frog's love interest Ms. Piggy. He would later to go on to be in movies, spin-offs, and having guest appearances in many shows.
Fictional History
Kermit's regular job is with The Muppet Show, where he serves as host and master of ceremonies and occasionally appears in sketches with the guest stars. In one such appearance, Lurleen Lumpkin was the guest and sang her hit seductive song "Bunk with Me Tonight" for him. However, Miss Piggy heard the song, became jealous and angry, and then charged onto the stage where she beat up Kermit.[1]
Kermit and Miss Piggy also co-starred with Troy McClure in The Muppets Go Medieval.[2]
He is also one of the many people on "Ned's List of Laudable Lefties".[3]
Behind the Laughter
- Kermit is the most famous of Jim Henson's Muppet creations. Kermit has appeared on Sesame Street, Muppets Tonight, and in the Muppets' movies, as well as hosting The Muppet Show.
- From 1955 to 1990 Kermit was performed by Jim Henson the creator of the Muppets. From Jim's death in 1990 to today he is performed by Steve Whitmire
