She once helped Lisa find the truth about her ancestor Eliza Simpson. She is hinted to be lesbian.[1]

Martha later became a librarian at Springfield Elementary School. After Bart taught the children to draw in books to make them more interesting, Ralph started doing the same. Martha said that it was the first time she had seen Ralph read a book without trying to kiss it or wear it as a hat. She then wanted to hug Homer and Marge.[2]
