SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television program created by Stephen Hillenburg (1961-2018), who was a marine biologist and animator. It has been airing since May 1, 1999 on Nickelodeon. The two series have referenced each other numerous times.

25 537 "Yellow Subterfuge" When Krusty asks to Lisa if could sell foreign rights to your show, Lisa says that even SpongeBob did it. And she shows him an Italian parodied version of SpongeBob SquarePants on her tablet called "Spugna Roberto Quadrati Pantaloni". In the show, Spugna Roberto (a parody of SpongeBob SquarePants) gives a gift to Squiduardo Calamari (a parody of Squidward Tentacles) for his birthday - namely, a mine from World War II. As Squiduardo refuses to accept the gift, a seahorse floats by and presses the trigger button on the mine, causing it to explode and blow Roberto and Squiduardo to pieces. A female fish in funeral attire begins to cry and mourn Squiduardo's death. In the parody, Roberto lived in a watermelon under the sea, rather than a pineapple under the sea as in the actual series.
