What to Expect When You're Expecting is a pregnancy and parenting guidebook written by Heidi Murkoff, first published in 1984. It provides information and advice for expectant parents on the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, fetal development, prenatal care, nutrition, labor, and childbirth. Organized around the stages of pregnancy, the book answers common questions and addresses concerns that prospective parents may experience. The authors went on to develop a What to Expect series of books covering other aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. The original book has been revised and expanded through multiple editions and has become one of the best-known pregnancy guides worldwide. It also inspired the 2012 romantic comedy film of the same name, directed by Kirk Jones and starring Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, and Brooklyn Decker, which follows several couples navigating the challenges and experiences of impending parenthood.
