Apocalypse Now is a 1979 film by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the novel "Heart Of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. It has been referenced in The Simpsons numerous times.

Johnny (I Love Lisa).png 4 74 "I Love Lisa" Seymour Skinner has a Vietnam War flashback to 1969, when he sailed a river in Da Nang and one of his friends, Johnny received a Valentine's card his girlfriend send him. Distracted by this mail he didn't notice a sniper and was shot dead. This is very similar to a scene in Apocalypse Now when a soldier on a river boat receives an audio recording from his mother by mail. As he listens to it he is ambushed by a sniper and murdered.
