Bernie is an employee at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.

History

Bernie and another employee met with Homer in the basement during a surprise inspection of the plant because Waylon Smithers, Jr. didn't want them to be tested by the nuclear inspectors, as he considered them to be "less gifted." He told them they were down there to guard a bee, which then escaped from its jar. Homer ran after the bee, leaving the two men behind, and was eventually found by the inspectors.
