History
Bart and Milhouse once watched an episode of Batman guest-starring Krusty. This inspired them to try and recreate a stunt which lead to Milhouse desecrating the United States flag and Seymour Skinner leading a protest, ruining Krusty's career.[1]
When Bart and Milhouse pooh-pooh Lisa's mention of the Donner Party, Lisa tells Martin to ignore them, as "They think that 'The Old West' is an actor who played Batman on TV".[2]
References to the 1960s "Batman" TV show
- Bart's face shown spinning with Batman style music, just like in the show - [3]
- Homer shouts: "To the Simpsons mobile!", like Batman used to shout: "To the Batmobile." [4]
- Batman actor Adam West was once special guest voice. In the same episode he references his "bat dance". When he starts his car the Batman theme music is heard. [5]
- Two beekeepers shout: "To the beemobile." [6]
- Homer sings "Baby on board... something something... Burt Ward." Burt Ward was the actor who played Robin in the TV series. [7]
- The 1960s "Radioactive Man" show is an obvious parody of the 1960s "Batman" TV series. Especially the comic book sound effects flashing on the screen when the characters are fighting. [8]
- Homer sings the "Batman theme song" and is brainwashed into joining the Movementarians by using the same melody. [9]
- Bart sings "Buttman" to the "Batman theme song". [10]
References to the Batman film franchise
- Bart and Lisa don't recognize Adam West as Batman. West immediately assumes that they are more familiar with actor Michael Keaton, who played Batman in the 1989 film version by Tim Burton. [11]
- After the dentist's operation Lisa watches her face in the mirror and laughs maniacally, just like the Joker did after his horrible face transformation in Tim Burton's 1989 film version of "Batman". [12]
- Same scene also spoofed with Krusty after having a facelift. [13]
- Homer's special secret car tunnel to avoid traffic is a reference to Batman's secret tunnel for his Batmobile in Tim Burton's 1989 film version of "Batman". [14]
- Kearney is dressed like the Joker in "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" [15]
References to the children's playground rhyme "Jingle Bells, Batman smells"
Trivia
- Bart once wrote as his chalkboard gag "Batman is nothing without his utility belt".[18]
- Bart's alter-ego superhero, Bartman is an obvious parody of Batman.
- Batman actor Adam West hired Mr. Plow and the Plow King[19]
- Batman is also in the car museum.[20]
- The show often uses the Batman theme song, because it is owned by FOX, so they can use it for free.
