Digby, nicknamed "Diggs", is a recent transfer student to Springfield Elementary School and an aspiring champion in the niche sport of falconry.

History[edit]

Diggs, Freedom, and Bart.

When Bart was being bullied by Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney, Freedom, Diggs' falcon, swooped down and attacked them. Diggs told Bart that he had transferred a few months ago and that he liked the lack of attention that he got at the school. Diggs then showed Bart the Springfield Elementary Falconry Club, which he had resurrected. Bart asked to join the club too and Diggs and Freedom accepted him.

Diggs started to teach Bart about falcons and falconry, with Bart staying out late instead of going home for dinner. Diggs also helped Bart to bond with Freedom, getting Bart to feed him and have Freedom land on his arm. As Diggs and Bart were hanging out in a tree, Diggs told Bart to watch him do something cool. Diggs then started to wave his arms about and jumped out of the tree. Diggs fell to the ground and hurt himself, breaking his arm.

At the hospital, Bart visited Diggs. Diggs told Bart that he thought that humans could fly, they just forgot how to. Diggs then told Bart that he still believed that, he just couldn't try again with his wing in a cast. Bart was then asked to leave the room as another doctor saw to Diggs. Diggs was then transferred to another hospital, the Twisted Meadows Psychiatric Hospital. Bart asked his family if he could go and visit Diggs, but they told him no.

At school the next day, Bart went to the Falconry Club where he found Diggs. Diggs told Bart that he got a day pass so he could take part in the falconry competition. He also dismissed his diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. The two of them then went to the falconry competition where Diggs told Bart that he wanted Bart's help in opening all the falcon cages when it was Freedom's turn to perform. When Freedom took flight, he pulled open all the cages and all the falcons flew off. Diggs then told Bart that he had to get back to the hospital and it was unlikely that he could get another day pass for a while.

Personality[edit]

Diggs has paranoid schizophrenia which results in some erratic behavior from him, such as him thinking he could fly. He also dismissed his own diagnosis, showing that he doesn't believe that he is unwell. Diggs is a loner who didn't have any friends except Bart and his falcon, Freedom.
