Dr. Joan Bushwell is a chimpanzee researcher.
Biography[edit]
When the Simpsons were lost in Tanzania, they found their way to Joan Bushwell's Chimp Refuge, which Lisa had heard of. The family went to Dr. Bushwell for help, and Lisa told her that her work had inspired her. Dr. Bushwell explained that she got up every day at 5:30 a.m. to watch the chimps and spent most of her day observing them.
Eventually, a group of poachers attacked the refuge. After fending them off for a while, Lisa discovered they were with Greenpeace and were there to save the chimps. It was then revealed that the refuge was built on a diamond mine and that Dr. Bushwell had essentially enslaved the chimps to mine diamonds for her. Dr. Bushwell offered the Simpsons diamonds to keep quiet about her operation, and they accepted.
