| Joan Bushwell
| Character Information
Dr. Joan Bushwell is a chimpanzee researcher. She ran a "refuge" for chimps in Africa, which later was discovered to be a diamond mine, and the chimps were her miners.
Her daily schedule involves her getting up at 5:00 am and watching the chimps. She then eats roots and water for lunch and watches the chimps some more. At night, she thinks about chimps until it is time for bed. During a visit from the Simpson family, potential poachers come and destroy the refuge. It is revealed that they are from Greenpeace, and are actually saving the chimps, as they are being exploited and are being used to be diamond miners. Bushwell uses the diamonds to decorate
her shoes and stationery. She becomes insane after being found and offers diamonds to the Simpsons in exchange for hush on her crimes, which the Simpsons accept.
Behind the Laughter
Dr. Bushwell is partly based on the renowned primatologist Jane Goodall.
Homer said her home smells somewhat like faeces, but not just monkey faeces.
