Maya Angelou (born Marguerite Ann Johnson; April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014) was an American author.

History

On May 28, 2014, Angelou was found dead in her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at age 86 by her caretaker. She had been in bad health and had cancelled recent scheduled appearances.
