History

When Bart told J. Loren Pryor that he wanted to pretend that he is a regular dumb kid, he understood that he wanted to do something like Jane Goodall and the chimps and ordered Bart to write down what he was planing.[1]

After Bart released Lolo the gorilla from the Springfield Zoo, the Simpson family brought her to the Pennsylvania Ape Reserve where Dr. Joan Bushwell worked. She took in Lolo, renaming her to Popo. Lisa then asked Dr. Goodall if she could stay with her as she was Lisa's hero. Dr. Goodall then told Lisa to work hard and get a doctorate then maybe she could.[2]

Behind the Laughter

Jane Goodall's character looks exactly the same as Joan Bushwell, who was based on the real-life Jane Goodall.
