Nigel is Mr. Burns' old boarding school friend.

History

Mr. Burns showed Nigel around the Power Plant. Nigel told Burns that he doesn't believe love will be forever. He then made a bet with Mr. Burns that he could break Homer and Marge up, which Burns didn't think he could do as he thought their love was strong.

Nigel blackmailed Homer into going to drink at Moe's Tavern with him. When he realized that Moe had a thing for Marge, he decided to play on that and bought Moe a fancy new bar called MoHo HOUSE. Eventually, Nigel's plan failed and Homer and Marge stayed together.

Relationships

Nigel is seen married to a young woman, but laments about how she is in a relationship with their tennis instructor, Rolando. He contrasts his crumbling relationship to the unwavering dedication between Mr. Burns and Smithers which leads up to the bet. Despite his romantic predicament he eventually tries to win Smithers in a bet and finally kisses him in gratitude after Smithers saves his finances from being a payout to Burns.

Behind the Laughter

Al Jean confirmed on his Twitter that Nigel is bisexual.[1]
