Neil Armstrong is an American aviator and former astronaut, test pilot, aerospace engineer, university professor, and United States Naval Aviator. He was the first person to set foot on the Moon.

History

Armstrong had a booth at the Springfield Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con, but no one wanted his autograph or even cared that he had actually been to the Moon. Annoyed by the convention attendees' indifference, Armstrong came close to firing his agent.[1]

In a flashback scene, Homer remembered the television coverage when Armstrong set foot on the Moon, and Armstrong's voice was heard as he delivered his famous "One small step ..." line.[2] When Krusty was married to Holly Hippie, he prevented her from seeing the moon landing as he was jealous of Armstrong.[3]

Krusty the Clown cited Armstrong's first steps on the moon as one of the very few notable televised events.[4]

After learning that Maggie had her heart set on having the moon, Homer became determined to give it to her. Barney told Homer that he could buy the moon from him, because he won it from Neil Armstrong in a dice game. Homer then bought the moon from Barney for a beer and gave it to Maggie.[5]

Non-canon

When Homer killed celebrities so that advertising agencies could use their likenesses in commercials for free, Neil Armstrong was one of the victims.[6]

When Homer and Lisa got onto the carousel at Krustyland, Homer said that they were the first people "to ever ride this baby", and they were like "That space guy who did that moon thing!" Lisa asked if he meant Neil Armstrong, and Homer replied that he meant Chewbacca.[7]

Behind the Laughter

Dan Castellaneta provided the voice of Neil Armstrong in "Mayored to the Mob". Archive audio of Armstrong's famous line, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind", was used in "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie" and "Worst Episode Ever".
