The scene where he adopts Mr. Burns was shown in the special Springfield's Most Wanted in which he was fully visible instead of appearing as a shadow.

The scene was a reference to Citizen Kane when young Kane is taken from his parents in rural Colorado to be raised by financier William Parks Thatcher, played by George Coulouris, who in turn was inspired by J. P. Morgan.
