Barry White is an American soul singer, best known for his distinctive bass singing voice.
History[edit]
Barry White served as the honorary Grand Marshal for Whacking Day. He was first annoyed when Mayor Quimby introduced him as "Larry White", and then shocked and disgusted when he found out that the day was for killing snakes. When White rebuked the crowd and told them of his disgust ("You people make me sick!"), they merely cheered, which meant (as Quimby told him) that they weren't listening to him.[1]
Later on Whacking Day, White helped Bart and Lisa to save the town's snakes from being "whacked". Bart, who at the time was being schooled at home, had learned that snakes were attracted to vibrations in the ground, and said they could use music with lots of bass to draw all of the snakes to the Simpson home. Lisa rummaged through the family's record collection, but didn't find anything suitable. Fortunately, Barry White was walking by outside singing to himself. When Lisa heard White's voice, she asked him if they could borrow him for a minute to help save the snakes. White readily agreed to help Lisa: "Anything for a lady."
The plan was a complete success. White sang his hit song "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe", backed by a record player and by Lisa playing bass guitar. Bart turned the speakers toward the ground, and all the snakes in town made a beeline for the Simpson home, where they were safe. When Bart and Lisa pleaded with the townspeople to put an end to Whacking Day, White helped make their case by saying, "I love the sexy slither of a lady snake."[1]
Barry White later appeared on an episode of Springfield Squares. The game show was being taped at the beach, and a tsunami struck. White was in the upper row, and invited the other guests into his square to escape the wave.[2]
A picture of Barry White is on the wall at The Pimento Grove.[3]
A picture of White was featured in Before They Were Famous.[4]
Barry has also recorded an album which Moe owns, called Barry White Reads the Yellow Pages.[5]
