John Wilkes Booth was an American stage actor and the man who killed Abraham Lincoln.

History

Bart played Booth in Springfield Elementary's Presidents' Day Pageant. However, Bart took the opportunity to pull a prank and played the role as the Terminator, saying "Hasta la vista, Abey" just before he shot Lincoln (played by Milhouse Van Houten). After he killed Lincoln, Bart started to attack Chester A. Arthur before he was yanked off of the stage by Ms. Hoover. As he was being dragged away, Bart said in a Southern accent, "Unhand me, damn Yankee!"

Homer once dreamed that he saved Lincoln from being killed when he knocked down Booth, spoiling his shot. After that, a grateful Lincoln shook hands with Homer.

Professor Frink went back in time to 1865 to save Abe Lincoln. When he arrived, Booth told to the director that he would not go up on stage, for the president had eaten the entire buffet so the audience did not get dinner and they now are furious. He was then interrupted by Abe, which is actually 19th century, Homer because Abe could not go to the theater and asked Homer to dress up as him. Homer asked Booth where the president's box is, in the mean time he ate a fruit basket. Booth asked then to him where he get the fruit basket, and Homer says where. He realizes then that president has taken his fruit basket and he gets angry with him especially after he walks away for he must go a see a play. Frink meets the president and Homer sees that the two are equal so Homer asks Frink to take over his place in the meantime he takes a beer. Frink goes and sits down in the president box. Shortly after, Booth directed a gun on him but Frink moves before he can fire the gun. Booth then tries to shoot Frink again but fails and Frank sprays him with a ice spray so he get frost-bite.

Behind the Laughter

• Booth's appearance in The Buck Stops Everywhere is based on that of Frank Grimes.
• Bart's Southern-accented "damn Yankee" line is a reference to Booth's Southern origins (he was born and rasied in Maryland) and support of the South in the American Civil War.
