History

Lisa said to Bart that she thought he needed Skinner as everybody needs a nemesis. Sherlock Holmes had his Dr. Moriarty, Mountain Dew has its Mellow Yellow and even Maggie has that baby with the one eyebrow.[1]

When Homer was fat Marge told Lisa that Homer can be surprisingly sensitive, and asked if she remembered when Marge giggled at his Sherlock Holmes hat. Homer had sulked for a week and then closed his detective agency.[2]

After Maude died Homer asked Ned why should Maude not be dating in Heaven, as the place is full of eligible bachelors, like John Wayne, Tupac Shakur, and Sherlock Holmes. Ned chuckled and told Homer that Sherlock Holmes is a character. Homer, misinterpreting this, said he sure is and made an erotic growl.[3]

When Bart and Lisa tracked Marge and Homer Marge told Homer that Bart failed show and tell but he's on their ass like Sherlock Holmes.[4]

Sherlock Holmes and the Grand Slam Breakfast is one of the "25 Books to Read Before You're Murdered", a list of crime novels that Chief Wiggum got a librarian to compile.[5]
