The Read Menace! is the second story in the series The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II and was published in the second issue, The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II #2.

Plot[edit]

Morbo reminds the viewers that last week the characters from The Simpsons comic book came to their world and became slaves. Soon, other fictitious characters from New New York Public Library woke up, but they did not like being slaves and they have now taken over the city, and Count Dracula is now mayor.

The Simpsons are with Fry and his friends in space, getting chased by spacecrafts from 1950s Pulp Fiction novels who want to catch them, but they manage to accidentally get the whole fleet to explode. As they celebrate their victory, they get trapped by Nimbus. It turns out that Waylon Smithers, Jr. has made a mutiny and he is now the captain of the ship, and he's going to force them to help him raid the galaxy, but after Marge and Leela tell him that Mr. Burns is dating Mom, he decides to go back to Earth. On Earth, the literary characters continue to attack the Earth population, and when the Nimbus lands they are also attacked, but after Bart states that The Simpsons are also characters like them, they stop attacking them so the Simpsons can finally run to the Planet Express headquarters, where Lisa finds out how they can stop the attacks after she asks the "What If-machine" what they would do if they knew how to beat the fictional characters.

The Simpsons walk to the library, where the vortex has transformed all the characters into real people. They throw a page with Giant Homer from Simpsons Comics #1 into the vortex, and Giant Homer from the magazine comes to life. They tell Giant Homer that there is beer, and he starts to walk around the streets of New New York City in search of the beer, trampling and killing several of the literary characters. The characters who survive give up and go into the vortex to become characters in the books again. However, there is still a problem: the Giant Homer is about to destroy the city. They decide to use the jumbotron, which displays Marge holding pork chops, to lead him into the vortex. Before the Simpsons jump into the vortex, they follow their new friends in a new delivery and pick up everyone else from Springfield. Meanwhile, Mom returns to Mr. Burns but she soon becomes happy. It turns out that she has a bit of his DNA, and she makes a clone of him that will awaken in a year. Mom tells her clone that when he wakes up in a year, they will be together again and then they will teach the universe the true meaning of pain, and it'll be excellent.
