Mona Flanders (née Godd) is the mother of Ned Flanders and the wife of Nedward Flanders Sr.
History
Mona Flanders is a beatnik, revealed when a much younger Mona and her husband were seening bringing Ned to Dr. Foster.[1] Due to her advanced age, it seems likely that Mona is now dead. However, Ned mentions that Rod and Todd do still have at least one living grandmother. It is not clear, however, if this is in reference to Mona, or to Maude's mother.
As of "Marge Gamer", her and her husband are presumably alive, per the comment from Flanders, "Homer, you met my parents" (to which Homer replied, "Not naked I haven't", as he was naked at the time).[2]
She later attended Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel's wedding.[3]
Trivia
- Her name may be a reference to Homer's mother Mona Simpson.
Behind the Laughter
Mona Flanders' appearance has changed greatly over time. Originally, she looked crazy with a wacky hairstyle and even seemed to act crazy. In a flashback, she appeared to be different and a hippy. Her latest appearance, in "Ned 'N Edna's Blend", has her looking much like her hippy self, only older and with gray hair. It is unknown why this lack of continuity happened.
